Tyneside after dark

Naughty Dating Newcastle: Geordie Singles Up for Fun

The North East's party city, from Quayside pubs to Ouseburn gigs, with flirty singles from Gateshead to the coast.

A Toon night out

Quayside, Bigg Market or Ouseburn?

Newcastle treats a night out as a competitive sport. Here's how each corner plays for a first date.

The Quayside

Bars and restaurants line the river under the Tyne Bridge, with BALTIC and the Glasshouse looking back from Gateshead. Just up the Side, the Crown Posada is a narrow Victorian pub with stained glass and an ornate ceiling, made for a first pint and a proper natter.

The Bigg Market

One of the oldest corners of the city and still its loudest on a Saturday, with bar after bar packed into a few short streets. Brilliant once you know you get on; a lot to shout over on a first meeting.

Ouseburn

The valley east of the centre, where old pubs, music venues and studios sit beneath the viaducts. The Cumberland Arms, at the top of the bank, puts on folk nights, gigs and comedy, and makes a relaxed spot to meet when you fancy something a bit different.

Flirty Locals on Both Banks of the Tyne

More than 25 Naughty Dating members live across Tyne and Wear. That means both sides of the river, not just the city: Gateshead, Sunderland, South Shields and the coast at Tynemouth and Whitley Bay all sit inside the figure. Proper local, then, and the matching looks closest to home first.

No single age group runs the show here. Three in ten are under 35, about a quarter are 35 to 44, and the 45 to 54s and the over-55s each make up just over a fifth, so there's a slice of Tyneside at every stage of life.

The Metro, the Bridges and the Towns Either Side

The Tyne and Wear Metro ties the whole patch together, and the new trains have made the ride home a lot more civilised.

Lines run out to Sunderland, South Shields, Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and the airport, all through the city centre, so meeting in town is rarely a trek for anyone. Walk across the Millennium Bridge and you're on the Gateshead side in minutes, with BALTIC, the free contemporary art gallery in the old flour mill, open Wednesday to Sunday for a daytime date with a view.

Durham sits outside Tyne and Wear, so it isn't in our figure, but it's a short train ride south, and at weekends the N21 night bus runs between the two. Widen your distance and Durham comes into your search. Further down the line there's naughty dating in Leeds, and north of the border, naughty dating in Edinburgh.

Before the First Pint on the Quayside

A Newcastle night has a habit of running away with you, which is half the fun. For a first meeting, keep it simple:

  • Stay on Naughty Dating until you've met in person. Anyone in a tearing hurry to get you onto WhatsApp sets off a warning, and that's worth listening to.
  • Look for a verified badge, and if anything feels off, block or report them without leaving the site.
  • Meet early in the evening, somewhere you can hear each other, before the Bigg Market gets going.
  • Know your last Metro or book your own taxi, and tell a mate where you'll be.

There's more on our safety page. Stuck on that first message? Our naughty chat-up lines will help, and our profile tips get you noticed in the first place.

Canny Questions From Tyneside

Does Naughty Dating Newcastle cover Sunderland and Gateshead?

It does. Our Newcastle figures cover the whole of Tyne and Wear, so Gateshead, Sunderland, South Shields and North Tyneside are all part of it, and the Metro links each of them to the city.

Is the Bigg Market a good shout for a first date?

For a first meeting, probably not: it's loud, it's rammed at weekends and you'll spend the night shouting. Start somewhere you can talk, on the Quayside or in Ouseburn, and save the Bigg Market for when you know you click.

Can I meet someone from Durham?

Yes. Durham sits just outside Tyne and Wear, so set a wider distance to take it in. Trains between the two are quick, which makes a Quayside drink an easy plan for either of you.

Is it all young party-goers on Tyneside?

Not at all. Under-35s edge it at three in ten, but the rest spread fairly evenly across the 35 to 44, 45 to 54 and 55-plus brackets.
